Batman Begins

Oh boy, what a movie it was. I have from my childhood been a big fan of Batman. What ever type of a Batman fan I was, I was no big a fan than my best friend. He was kind of a “super” fan for Batman.

Anyway, as I was talking about this movie, I had a damn good time watching it. The first half was just incredible; nice story, nice acting, and nice direction. The second half was almost all action, but then, good quality action.

It is no wonder that this movie gets a 10/10 rating from me, and let me tell you that it is one of the rarest movies to get a 10 out of 10 from me.

I am eagerly awaiting the sequel to this movie – The Dark Knight.

The Forbidden Kingdom Movie

I have since long been a fan of martial arts and kung-fu movies. Before watching this one, I had heard a lot of good things, particularly about its comedy. I got to see this movie today, and I must say what a watch it was.

Right from the beginning till the end, the movie was entertaining. This has to be one of the best Jackie Chan movies I’ve ever seen. Plotted in an ancient, mystical world, it had everything to be remembered for a long time. Although a bit predictive at times, the story was overall good. But I guess the “predictive” nature of the movie in my mind could just be because I’ve seen these type of movies in the past, like Lord of the Rings and alike (in terms of story).

And yes, the comedy was indeed good, if not the best, especially Jackie Chan scenes. And those of Jet Li too. Did I say Jet Li (that serious looking guy)? Yup, Jet Li was all impressive with his martial arts and a little bit of humor.

I would conclude my sayings on this movie by the very much cliched statement “It is a must watch!”, especially if you are an adventure & comedy lover, though I wish the martial art scenes were a little better and more realistic, especially the “kick-in-the-air” ones. But you don’t have to conclude anything with this point of mine; the martial arts fight scenes were incredible. 🙂

The Forbidden Kingdom will certainly go down in history as a very good Chinese fantastical story based movie.

Some good movies recently

Today, I got to watch i, Robot movie, featuring Will Smith. Although it’s a quite old movie now (released in 2004), the reason it being a futuristic science fiction attracted me to watch it. Earlier I got several chances to watch the film, but I couldn’t really build up my mind to watch it at those times.

I had suspected the movie to be another of those unrealistic fiction types, but I was certainly proven wrong as the movie proceeded towards the end. Though one cannot easily imagine a world full of human-serving robots and it’s consequences, Isaac Asimov has described that scenario wonderfully in his book i, Robot, on which the film is based. I was surprised to find out later that the original book was first published way back in 1950. Damn! This particular author had a brilliant imagination and creativity at that time too! Of course there is no doubt this and other works of his make him one of the most influential science fiction authors of all time.

The ending of the movie was very good and the script, the events, and Will Smith’s acting (of course) were all well put out. All in all, I really enjoyed the movie and was deeply inspired by it. You just ought to watch it, if you haven’t yet already.

Another good movie I saw recently was Ocean’s Eleven. Ask me honestly and I would say this was the best one I had seen in some past 1-2 years. The story was good, the whole acting crew very good, and the comedy was just fantastic. Add to that the “sophisticated” style acting of George Clooney and the dashing Brad Pitt. And then there was one of may favorites Matt Damon too. All the other artists were good too. So, all in all I really enjoyed watching this movie, so much that I would still love to see it again and again and again and again!

I am impatiently waiting to see Ocean’s Twelve which is the sequel of Ocean’s Eleven. Hey, there is Ocean’s Thirteen too. So, some nice movies are just waiting for me around the corner. 😉

Recent Happenings – II

Posting after about a month. So, what happened in the past one month with me? Read on….

  • In my Python learning quest, I have reached the most interesting and core part – OOP (Object Oriented Programming). Before that, I had been reading the functional programming part, which is also interesting in itself, but of course not as interesting as implementing classes 😉 . You might be thinking why I am too slow in learning Python. That’s because of a simple reason that I get to read my Python book only when I get some time (which I rarely get in continuation).
  • Last month, I also created a Python based Jumbled Words game. It’s a GUI-based game which uses wxPython as the front-end. I have already prepared a setup file for this little game (for Windows) which I will be posting for download soon.
  • As a part of a college project, last week I was all too busy coding a light-weight Forum System (prepared in PHP and uses MySQL as the database backend). If you are interested in checking out how it looks like, visit: http://www.granularproject.org/sandbox/forum/. Currently, it doesn’t boast of many features, but at least provides all the basic functionality in a cool looking interface. And well, I don’t intend to introduce any more features in it. It is better left as it is!
  • On Granular development front, I had been slow since the last 2 weeks. But now, I intend to devote some good amount of planned time as the next Granular Linux release date is approaching soon.
  • The recently launched IPL (Indian Premier League) has been quite a success. I myself love watching it. the major matches are very addictive and high scoring. Gosh, due to IPL I am worried about my forthcoming end semester exams! 😉
  • And did you remember I was reading Skipping Christmas by John Grisham? Well, I haven’t gotten any far in it yet. I am still there where I left it the last time I gave a mention of it. 😉

Recent happenings

Although I haven’t yet gotten out of the agony that I got on loosing my previous blog, I am finding this new place quite comfortable. Today, I was feeling like blogging here, after so much time. So, here are some events related to me take took place not too long ago:

  1. Granular 1.0 Preview was released on 14th March 2008. Check out the release annoucnement here. I am quite happy with this release and so are rest of the Team Granular members who put the real efforts in making this release possible. So far, the reaction of the users who have tried this release has been nice and as expected. Another good news related to the release came when its official torrent became the featured torrent at our tracker linuxtracker.org. Check out the torrent here.
  2. My journey of learning a couple of programming languages resumed after the latest Granular release. I am now continuing my Python book from where I left it and sharpening my HTML/XHTML concepts simultaneously. Starting from today, I have also started a book on Java (damn, you cannot be called even a “computer guy” without learning this language!).
  3. Windows Vista SP1 has been released and it’s on my download schedule for this weekend.
  4. Apart from the programming books, these days I am reading a little nice novel by John Grisham. The name of the novel is Skipping Christmas. Till now, I have found this book a real worth-a-read.
  5. Yesterday, I took out some time to resume playing my favorite game – Half-Life 2.

More to talk later. 🙂
